The freelance arm of my work with Access to HE projects has, of March 2025, got a brand new look! Previously managed through other means, I'm delighted to share that I now offer a more focused and refined consultancy service through my new company, Yellow Hammer Education Services Ltd (Company No. 16302220).
I am proud to deliver 360-solutions-focused consultancy which means that whatever type of project I'm involved in, I never just flag problems, I present viable solutions for you to consider and offer support with implementing any of those solutions too.
I have a portfolio of working with a range of providers and AVAs on a wide variety of projects including but not exclusive to writing learning materials, developing units, writing assignments, and carrying out audits. From quality assurance processes and compliance support through to supporting new providers to get set up, or even getting into the classroom to support staff and students alike - there's not a lot I haven't been involved with over the years!
Whatever your project/activity looks like, no matter how big or small, if you need the helping hand of an experienced and importantly, a completely independent Access to HE practitioner then get in touch and let's talk!
Take a look below for a bit more detail on the services that I can provide and the projects I've been involved in.
Fees are calculated on a case-by-case basis depending on duration, intensity, location and content.
Please note that whilst the official 'Access to HE' logo is present on my book and in other areas of this site, any and all consultancy work carried out by me via Yellow Hammer Education Services Ltd is in no way affiliated with, endorsed by, or in any way associated with QAA or the official Access to HE branding.
From biochemistry to human anatomy to pharmacology, I have written a range of learning materials for both synchronous and asynchronous learning courses, primarily in my subject area of biology. However, I've also written for a range of developmental units such as report writing, study skills, and critical analysis, and chemistry units too.
Whether you're looking for a completely new unit, or someone to review existing unit specifications, I have been involved with a range of unit development, particularly around working to combine 3 credit units into larger, 6 or 9 credit units in biology, chemistry and developmental subjects.
Whether for providers or for AVAs, sometimes new assignment briefs need to be written - it could be that a brief is simply out of date, or that it has been flagged as needing refinements from a compliance point of view. I've been involved in a range of assignment writing projects so if you are looking for some help in this area, let me know!
If you need someone to come in and support a cohort of learners for any reason (staff sickness/leave for example) with biology, chemistry or developmental units, why not get in touch and see if I might be able to help. I work with several education agencies and providers directly to support on a range of contracts from days to weeks to months supporting Access to HE content across a range of AVAs.
If you are looking for a keen and independent eye to look over your materials or assessments to ensure that they are as robust as they can be, I'm happy to help. No matter how big or small the audit, I will take a deep dive into the area, apply a keen level of detail and provide you with a range of recommendations and highlights in a solutions-focused report.
Getting started as a provider of Access to HE can be a challenge, and compliance documentation can be overwhelming! I've worked with providers to support with getting their courses off the ground by helping with understanding paperwork, planning assessment calendars, recruiting staff (and students!), delivering training events and lots more! If you're thinking of getting set up and aren't quite sure where to start, why not reach out for a chat?
Take any chapter of my book (or even take multiple chapters) of your choosing, and I have a workshop for it! Whether you need to fill an hour, half a day, a full day or a series of events, I can bring a fresh face into the classroom and deliver a completely bespoke workshop to your students with my characteristic energy and enthusiasm! Warning - attendees may leave more inspired about academic study skills than you thought possible!
Access to HE is a specialised area and whilst targeted training events can be key, sometimes they are scheduled on dates that clash with other things, sometimes they're online when really you'd prefer face to face - or vice versa! With flexibility to choose the dates/times/duration and content, I can design and deliver specific training on a range of subjects to help support your Access to HE teams.
Have you got a specific Access to HE project that you want off the ground that doesn't really fit in any other box? Whether that's implementing a new way of working, boosting team morale, motivational speaking, running jargon-busting workshops or literally anything else Access to HE related, let's talk about it!
